AUTHENTIC EDINBURGH TOUR REVIEWS

“We booked a walking tour with Gains M. of Old Town Edinburgh and Edinburgh Castle. Gains did not disappoint. A Phd. historian and native of Scotland, his tour was wide ranging, covering both the majestic (castles, palaces, churches, monuments) and the mundane (a small shed that housed sedan chairs). He summarized Edinburgh’s complicated history, pointing out some of Scotland’s most intriguing figures. Do you know who was the inspiration for “Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”? Neither did we.”

“We went on the “Edinburgh and Slavery “ tour with Gains. What an interesting and informative two hours! Gains encouraged questions from the group and was able, as a historian, to give us full answers on this subject and also information and interesting anecdotes to place it within the context of other relevant historical events. Gains is a very knowledgeable and personable guide and I would highly recommend him.”

“A group of us were in Edinburgh for a family wedding. It was the first time any of us had been to Edinburgh and several of us are Outlander fans so the Local Eyes Outlander walking tour was very appealing. We had 13 people on our private tour with Gains. He gave us excellent info on Outlander history and film locations. He also gave us excellent info on Scottish history in general. Even those on the tour not Outlander fans thoroughly enjoyed it.”

“The “Edinburgh and Slavery Tour” is a must for both locals and visitors. The combination of locations, stories and remarkable factual information made for a wonderful tour of part of Edinburgh’s sorry past of slavery that created huge wealth for some, and a total absence of rights for others. Gains as the tour guide was an encyclopaedia of knowledge about this subject. Fascinating!”

“My husband and I spent six hours with tour guide and Edinburgh history expert, Gains, on a custom Old Town/New Town combo tour. This tour crafted by Gains was exactly as we wanted, with a focus on the intriguing history of Edinburgh and Scotland generally. Gains met us at our hotel and we continued at our pace until he dropped us off at our afternoon tea that afternoon. Edinburgh was our last stop in our ten days driving through Scotland, and we had heard much of various aspects of Scottish history; Gains did a tremendous job of synthesizing all of the pieces we had heard into the places and people we were able to see remnants of in Edinburgh. Gains also was super-personable and an enjoyable person with whom to spend such a significant part of a day.”

“Our family really enjoyed Gains. He was very prompt to start and I could tell he really a itinerary all set up. Gains was very patient when we had to take the time to get the kids lunch. His knowledge of Scottish history is amazing and the little stories and antidotes were “cherry on top” of his tour. He walked us down to our next appointment and gave several suggestions on where to eat. We would use him again!”

“My family and I thoroughly enjoyed Gain’s Edinburgh city tour. In 3 hours, he managed to give us an insight into the city’s history, culture and architecture, peppered with delightful anecdotes and humour. With his vast knowledge, he answered our questions with patience, and was very considerate, accommodating our group’s individual needs. It was certainly 3 hours well spent in getting to know Edinburgh with Gains’ professional guidance.”
